What our clients and veterinarians have to say about Canine Behavior Consulting.

Testimonials
I contacted Kevin after a rather unfortunate incident with my dog, Bear that left me questioning what to do next. I had a fear-aggressive pup whose anxiety, when coupled with my own, was disastrous. I found out about Kevin and Canine Behavior Consulting through my current vet and it was an absolute blessing. Kevin’s knowledge, patience and the time he takes to understand what is going on with your dog and your situation make him an incredible behavioral specialist. He gave me all the necessary tools to help Bear gain confidence and instill my role as the leader which I had let slip from my grasp previously. We will always be working towards bettering Bear’s anxiety and stress, but currently, after just four training sessions via Zoom, Bear is a different dog. He listens better, is no longer terrified and aggressive towards most people, and has finally been able to get through a vet appointment with little stress. It’s still a work in progress, but behavioral training isn’t a “fix-it”, it’s about getting the necessary tools to help your pet. I would definitely recommend Kevin because, even in these times of Zoom calls and social distancing, he knows exactly what to do! Thank you so much Kevin for all the help and encouragement you gave us and for helping me be a better fur-mom and leader in my home.

Kevin is knowledgeable and wholly dedicated to his craft as a trainer. I adopted a bonded pair of older dogs -Ellie-bean and Ouiser - during the pandemic lockdown and one of them had anxiety and aggression problems with other dogs while out walking. Because of her age, she is not the ideal training candidate yet Kevin helped the two of us become a safe walking family. I will admit I was skeptical of being able to train my dog by Zoom, but Kevin is magnificent. He not only explained to me what to do but also educated me on why the training techniques work which made it easier to understand what I was doing. We had an unexpected setback during training when a dog came out of nowhere and scared Ellie-bean. I was able to use the tools Kevin taught me, adapt them to the setback, and get her on the right track. We are so lucky to have found Kevin. I give him all the stars!!!

At 8 months pregnant I was completely stressed and fearful to bring a baby home to our current dog situation. We have 3 dogs and 2 were not getting along. Our vet recommended Kevin to us after a dog fight that caused injury. Kevin was straight forward and honest about our situation. After our first Zoom meeting we realized he was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us all the tools we needed to create a happy and safe environment for our baby and dogs. Each Zoom meeting only encouraged us more to continue with the tools Kevin provided. I could not recommend Canine Behavior Consulting more. Even in these COVID times, he has found a way to effectively train us humans to correctly train our dogs. I will forever be grateful. His knowledge and guidance have been priceless.

We have a 2-1/2 year old Pit/Lab mix, Brittany, whom we adopted 8 months ago after spending the previous eight months in a County Animal Control/No Kill Shelter. (The longest stay of any dog at that shelter!) Although she was great around people, she was out of control when it came to even seeing other dogs, let alone being exposed to them. After doing some research and talking to a few local trainers, we were unable to get the help we knew we needed, so I researched through the AKC website and discovered Kevin Ray and Canine Behavior Consulting, Inc.

We contacted Kevin, and through Zoom calls, a custom pamphlet of educational materials, repeated email contact, and helpful techniques Kevin advised us to use, we are seeing tremendous progress with her.

Although we were initially told she was female aggressive and should be kept away from other females, she now goes to doggy daycare three days a week and has friends of both sexes and different sizes.

Kevin is not just a provider of written information...he is “all in” when it comes to helping with the challenges of channeling your dog’s behavior. He uses easy to relate to analogies, simple yet effective solutions, and most importantly offers encouragement and support to “the humans”. He responds quickly and thoroughly to our questions, suggesting several solutions for each situation. He has taught us that the humans need to be trained, so the one-on-one meetings we thought we needed were not necessary. We are so happy we contracted with Kevin to help our sweet girl, and us, to now live more calmly and happily! He truly helped change our life.

Kevin Ray worked with us from January through May 2021 during several sessions (with space between each) in helping my husband and me learn how to help our two Cardigan Welsh Corgi’s live their best lives… and for us to live our best lives WITH our Corgis. The time together with Kevin was most rewarding for us and it was all by Zoom due to COVID-19 and due to significant heat that kept us from getting together in-person outside. Regardless, the training/guidance was most effective. Kevin is thorough, evidence-based, understandable, realistic, appropriately directive (based on experiential results), and delivers significant value for our investment of time and money. He provides the equivalent of a 200 to 300 page book of articles on various dog-human training topics and videos that go well beyond the typical dog training videos and materials. I recommend Kevin as a resource to anyone who wants to be a better partner and parent to their dog of any age or stage of development.

Thank you Kevin!

Our story began when our dog Cody, who is a little over a year old, snapped at the vet during a routine check-up. The behavior wasn’t completely out of the ordinary, but it concerned the vet enough that she recommended Kevin as a canine behavior expert.

I reached out to Kevin, filled out the necessary paperwork, and arranged to meet with him via Zoom due to ongoing COVID restrictions. From our first meeting, I knew Kevin would be able to help our dog behave better. His expertise was evident, both from conversations and the personalized training package he provided. He identified problem areas in Cody’s behaviors and the reasons behind them, all stemming from his experience and grasp of canine psychology. My family and I resolved to follow his recommendations down to the letter, and we began the moment we ended our first Zoom session.

Fast-forward to a month later, and Cody is a much happier, more settled, and much more obedient dog. He has not snapped any more at family members; he is much better behaved on leash walks (to the extent that he will sit and wait, even as people and dogs pass). In Kevin’s words: Is he perfect? No. Is he very good? Yes.

My family and I are committed to continuing Cody’s training, and Kevin has made himself available should we need him in the future. I’m grateful that our vet put me in touch with him, and I recommend him without reservation to anyone who wants to properly train their dog.

We called Kevin Ray, the dog behaviorist for our very fearful Cockapoo, Nigel who was adopted from a shelter. Kevin did a great job and was able to teach my housekeeper and my husband how to reduce the dog’s fear of them. He was spot on...the dog has been able to be walked by the housekeeper, finally, after avoiding her at all costs for five months, and my husband and the dog are bonding — since Nigel appears very fearful of men. Nigel is also taking Fluoxetine 10 mg. daily, and I think the combination of meds and behavior modification is resulting in our animal having a much better state of emotional well-being. I care for behavior problems in children, but my husband and housekeeper listened to Kevin more attentively, and I think that he helped us turn the corner with this little dog. His approach was very logical and sound, and he was knowledgeable about the best ways to train the dog with positive reinforcement. I think he was well worth the money.

Kevin Ray and Canine Behavior Consulting were exactly what we needed. Our two rescue dogs (a 12-year-old and a 5-year-old) were not completely house-trained, and the accidents were driving my husband and me to consider such drastic options as re-homing them because we felt powerless. Kevin gave us the knowledge (which really is the power) to transform OUR behavior towards the dogs and provide the proper guidance that they needed to do what we wanted. Kevin’s love of dogs, his simple no-nonsense approach and his great sense of humor made him a pleasure to work with. Thanks to successful training with Kevin, we now have a happy (accident-free) home and intend to keep it that way! Thank you again!

Kevin’s guidance and printed materials helped me get through the first few months with my new addition, Cubby! His obedience methods were simple to understand and teach, and they worked! My pup is now almost five months old and people can’t believe he’s not full-grown because of how mature he is!

See Skye. See Skye bark. See Skye bark too much. And jump up wildly on anyone who walked into our home. Kevin’s Canine Behavior gave us the tools we needed to better understand and change our dog’s behavior, and our own. Kevin taught us how to use positive reinforcement training strategies that really worked; now we’re all a happier pack.

Kevin was great and exactly what we needed. He listened to what we wanted out of our dogs and gave us the tools that we needed to succeed. It took a lot of work, but Kevin was there the whole time to answer any questions or concerns we had. When we were at a loss Kevin was able to demonstrate the solution to our problem. Our house and our lives are much more relaxed these days, and we have Kevin to thank. We would recommend him to anyone that has behavior problems with their dogs.
